September 6, 2024 – For immediate release

Airdrie, AB - A celebration took place this afternoon at the Ed Eggerer Park with Airdrie’s first artificial turf field grand opening. The new Football Canada and FIFA sanctioned artificial turf field, suitable for football, soccer, lacrosse, rugby, field hockey and school activities - will serve as a homefield for Airdrie, Rocky View Schools and north Rocky View County.

The City chose to fund the project mainly through the Canada Community Building Fund using $5.6 million of the grant towards the artificial turf field project as well as contributions of $300,000 from the Alberta Community Partnership program, and $277,500 from Rocky View County through a Community Recreation and Culture Funding Grant.

“Many sporting groups have been awaiting the opening of this artificial turf field and we are proud that Airdrie can now offer this amazing amenity for our community. I’d like to extend our gratitude to the Federal and Provincial Governments who contributed to this project through the Canada Community Building Fund and the Alberta Community Partnership Program,” says Mayor Peter Brown

The artificial turf field is also expected to attract local sports tournaments. Included in the project is upgraded field lighting and press box improvements. The project is estimated to add an additional ~ 615 hours of playable prime time to the field’s use.
