AIRDRIE, AB – The City of Airdrie is pleased to announce its support of Airdrie Housing Limited’s (AHL) acquisition of a 0.67-acre parcel of land designated for multi-residential development. This important step is made possible through an $800,000 grant from the City’s Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF), which aims to address affordable housing challenges in the community.
Mayor Peter Brown emphasizes the importance of the acquisition in the current housing landscape. “Council understands the significant affordability challenges Airdrie residents are facing, and we continue to seek solutions that promote a diverse, equitable and inclusive community.”
Jessica DeVreeze, affordable housing team leader, notes the alignment of this initiative with the City’s long-term housing strategy. “Accelerating the success of Airdrie Housing Limited is a key component of the 2024-2030 Affordable Housing Principled Action Plan. Leveraging HAF funds for this land purchase directly supports the plan’s objectives and is an essential first step in improving affordable housing options in Airdrie.”
Dougal Forteath, AHL’s managing director, expresses gratitude on behalf of the AHL Board of Directors, saying, “We greatly appreciate the financial support, which makes this acquisition possible. The grant enables us to secure land for much-needed future housing development.”
The allocation of HAF funds for this purchase was unanimously approved by Airdrie City Council on Nov. 5, 2024. AHL will hold the land in inventory for future housing development projects to help meet the growing needs of the community.
