We're thrilled to announce that the 40th Avenue Interchange to QEII opened on Oct. 13, 2023.
We are excited to celebrate a major milestone in Airdrie's growth and progress. This $65 million project will connect communities, enhance safety and boost economic development. During construction, there will be numerous temporary lane, pathway and road closures. In the spring of 2022, Kingsview Road at Sharp Hill Way was closed permanently. Businesses along Kingsview Road will be open during construction and can be accessed from the north side of Kingsview Road.
In June 2022, Rocky View County (RVC) implemented gated access to Sharp Hill (limited to emergency access only) to limit the impact of traffic volumes following closure of the service road (RR 294/Sharp Hill Way). Visit RVC WEBSITE for details and map.

The construction of the interchange will benefit future land developments in the area that are currently constrained due to transportation capacity. The new interchange will provide critical transportation infrastructure that will support development of future lands. This project will benefit a future development area about 7,500 acres of land in size, which will yield about 36,000 residential units, 2,100 acres of industrial and 400 acres of commercial development over a 30-year period.
The construction of the new interchange at QEII Highway and 40th Avenue in Airdrie will immediately improve safety and provide more than 300 jobs.
