City Council approves ‘Inspire’ as the name for Airdrie’s new Multi-Use and Library Facility

July 18, 2024 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AIRDRIE, AB – Council approved ‘Inspire’ as the anchor name for Airdrie’s new Multi-Use and Library Facility during a special Council meeting held on July 18. The name ‘Inspire’ will be accompanied by the sponsor’s name, which will be finalized later this summer.

Following two workshops, two Council meeting discussions and an online Council engagement held over the last ten months, 12 names were brought forward that contributed to building trust with the community, set expectations for it and build ownership of it among the community. Council considered and deliberated over 12 name options including GLOW, Discovery Commons, The Branch and Airdrie Nexus. Inspire was the chosen winner in the July 2 Council meeting after which, Council directed staff to determine whether the final name of Inspire should stand alone or a second word indicative of the space should be added.

“The naming is a crucial step towards setting a vision, purpose and identity for this new facility,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “Inspire reflects our commitment to fostering creativity, learning and community spirit. It is a name that embodies the aspirations we hold for this space that will feature the library and many multi-use spaces – to inspire generations to come through education, culture and shared experiences. The naming also helps align with our AirdrieONE pillar of whole communities by creating a sense of place, connection and ownership of this new facility for everyone in the community,” he adds.

The naming of the new facility helps continue the momentum on informing the branding and wayfinding signage for the facility and ensures the facility is ready to meet the fall 2025 opening timeline. This will be followed by an exploration of sponsorship opportunities as the name will be accompanied by the sponsor’s name. A potential sponsorship title would be placed next to the facility’s name, much like the Saddledome in Calgary, which keeps the cultural relevance and community connection while adapting different sponsor titles like the ScotiaBank Saddledome, the Pengrowth Saddledome and the Canadian Airlines Saddledome over the years.

Located at 805 Main Street Southwest, the 73,000 sq ft Inspire will boast the Airdrie Public Library at 53,000 sq ft with various multi-use spaces spread across 20,000 sq ft. Please visit amulf.ca for more information about the project.
