City of Airdrie shares extreme cold weather supports and resources for residents

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie is responding to the extreme cold weather conditions with supports and resources for residents. Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for Rocky View County near Airdrie and Crossfield, with windchill temperatures of -30 to -40 degrees Celsius expected on February 3-5.

Daytime and overnight warming spaces will be available in Airdrie for any residents seeking a warm and safe place. Transportation from the daytime warming spaces to the overnight warming spaces will be available. Food, warm beverages and other supports will be available at the overnight warming spaces.

Information on warming spaces, and other cold weather supports can be found below.

Overnight warming spaces

Monday, Feb. 3, 8 p.m. – 8 a.m.

Daytime warming spaces

These community spaces will be open to welcome anyone in the community needing a warm and safe place during their regular business hours in the upcoming extreme cold weather conditions.

Monday to Friday: 9:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday: 1 – 5 p.m.

Monday to Friday: 5:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Airdrie Transit

The City of Airdrie Transit will ensure that during this extreme cold weather event, all residents anywhere along their transit routes remain safe and be provided transportation options to access various programs and services or other warm, safe environments.
