Ron Ebbesen Twin Arena temporarily closed for construction beginning March 1.

Feb. 11, 2025  – For immediate release

AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – Ron Ebbesen Twin Arena will temporarily close for scheduled mid-life upgrades starting March 1.

“The upgrades at Ron Ebbesen are part of our facility maintenance plan and are an investment in our community’s future, ensuring the arena remains a vital space for hockey games and for our kids to learn to skate for another 30 years,” says Mayor Peter Brown.

The scheduled upgrades include the replacement of the ice pads and refrigeration system, enhanced spectator seating to meet accessibility standards and new arena boards, glass and safety netting. These improvements aim to extend the life of the building and enhance facility accessibility. The project will also introduce an upgraded flooring surface in the arena and lobby, allowing patrons to put on their skates outside of the dressing rooms. Additionally, a dry pad mini-rink will be installed in the lobby to provide an activity zone for spectators.

“Completing these upgrades in the spring and summer, when utilization rates are lower, minimizes the impact on our sports user groups and the community,” said Stephane Rainville, team leader of Arena Operations. The ice sheets at Genesis Place and Plainsmen Arena will remain operational during construction at Ron Ebbesen Twin Arena to support community and rental use.

The City is funding the project in part through its Canada Community Building Fund allocation, which supports local governments in building and revitalizing public infrastructure through a partnership between the Federal and Provincial governments.

Ron Ebbesen Twin Arena is scheduled to reopen on Oct. 15.
