AIRDRIE, ALBERTA – The City of Airdrie is pleased to announce that Council approved the East Points Community Area Structure Plan (CASP) during its regular meeting yesterday evening (Dec. 7).
The East Points CASP provides statutory approval for several hundreds of acres of industrial lands and sets the framework for future development. The approved plan encompasses six quarter sections located in city’s northeast that will accommodate approximately:
• 348 acres of Light Industrial
• 160 acres of Medium Industrial
• 256 acres of Heavy Industrial
• 13 acres of Commercial
Over 300 acres of light, medium and heavy industrial lands are primed to take advantage of adjacent servicing connections and existing servicing capacity.
“The approval of the CASP allows Council to move ahead with its strategic goal of advancing non-residential development to help balance our tax base,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “The addition of these lands provides the opportunity for us to attract new investment and the potential to create up to 6,000 new jobs for Airdrie residents over the next 20 years.”
The East Points CASP addresses a foundational piece of Airdrie’s Economic Strategy 2018-2028 by ensuring that shovel ready land is available for business growth.
Airdrie is located just north of Calgary, adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and minutes from the TransCanada Highway and the Calgary International Airport. Airdrie’s ideal location and superb quality of life has resulted in the community doubling in size over the last decade, with a current population of over 70,000.
