Located in the southernmost tip of the city and west of QEII, the South Airdrie Area Structure Plan encompasses approximately 795 gross acres, with a wide range of uses within its boundaries, including industrial, commercial and residential.
It is a dynamic area of the city with significant construction underway, including the recently announced 40 Avenue and QEII Interchange.
South Airdrie has several residential communities including Hillcrest and South Pointe and two school locations, with one school already constructed.
The Sierra Springs employment district is also found within the boundaries of South Airdrie and is home to major retailers such as Walmart, London Drugs, Winners, Home Depot, Peavey Mart and many more. With over 98 businesses, shops, restaurants and one hotel, this area represents about 9 per cent of Airdrie’s total commercial business licenses and about 12 per cent of the City’s employment base.
Approximately 2,809 people currently live in South Airdrie, with a total population estimate at full build to be 9,000 people. The community is about 38 per cent constructed and we are anticipating significant activity in this area due to the recent redesignation of approximately 247 acres from industrial to a combination of residential and commercial.
