Facade improvement grant

The façade improvement grant provides a financial incentive to encourage improvements and enhancement of existing commercial, industrial, institutional or mixed-use properties located within the Downtown.

Incentive goals

  • Enhance the appearance and appeal of downtown buildings and properties while creating a positive impact on surrounding businesses
  • Make downtown more welcoming to increase foot traffic
  • Help building owners attract and retain tenants. Attractive, well-designed and clean facades can increase the number of first-time customers
  • Leverage public funding to catalyse private investment

Grant value

This grant is a matching reimbursement grant. The City may reimburse 50 per cent of the eligible costs to the maximum allowed.

Successful applicants receive funding after their projects are complete and receipts for eligible expenses have been submitted and verified by the Application Manager.

  • Comprehensive improvements up to $50,000 per property
    • Includes three or more design elements
    • Project improves the entirety of key façades
    • Projects make a significant improvement
  • Simple improvements up to $25,000 per property
    • Includes one or more design elements
