City of Airdrie receives FortisAlberta grant for energy efficiency project

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Airdrie, AB, Oct. 30, 2024 – The City of Airdrie is pleased to announce that we were the successful recipient of a $7,500 grant from FortisAlberta to aid in a lighting retrofit project at the Plainsmen Arena, completed this June. This initiative aims to enhance energy efficiency and support the City's sustainability goals.

The retrofit project involves upgrading the existing lighting fixtures in various public spaces within the arena, including washrooms, staircases, the lobby, the ice resurfacer room, and security lights in the arena. The current fluorescent lamps will be replaced with advanced LED lighting systems, which are more energy-efficient and durable.

The new LED fixtures will use approximately 65 per cent less energy than the existing lights. Additionally, the project will incorporate occupancy sensors and dimming features to further reduce energy consumption during low-use periods, maintaining safety and efficiency.

FortisAlberta's grant of $7,500 under the Save Energy community program will partially fund this $17,000 project. This partnership highlights FortisAlberta's commitment to sustainability and community support.
