Visual arts programs
Create and connect with visual art classes at Inspire. Explore a variety of media, ignite your imagination and turn your ideas into artful reality. Classes include child, youth, adult or family options and are held in Inspire's two art studios.
Further information on class days and times will be available prior to registration this summer.
Classes for families
Family classes are for children ages 3-6, with a participating adult.
- Family painting: children will have the opportunity to express themselves through painting supported by a family member, in instructor-led activities.
- Family mixed media: children will learn how to use different media to create art while supported by a family member, in instructor-led activities.
Classes for children and youth
Classes for children include ages 6 - 10, classes for youth include ages 11-17.
- Drawing (child & youth): students will learn how to use coloured and graphite pencils to create their own drawings.
- Watercolour (child & youth): students will learn about painting composition while developing watercolour painting techniques to create their own project.
- Fibre art (child & youth): students will work with felt to develop 2D (children) or 3D (youth) artpieces.
- Cartooning (child): students will learn about cartooning techniques while using pencil and markers to create their own drawings inspired by a favourite cartoon character.
- Manga (youth): students will learn anime/manga drawing skills like proportions, hairstyles and character poses while using pencils and markers to create their own manga characters.
Classes for adults
Classes for adults are for individuals aged 18 or older.
- Drawing: students will learn how to use coloured and graphite pencils to create their own drawings.
- Mosaic: students will create an 8" x 8" art piece using mosaic, a type of art that involves piecing together small pieces of tile to create a larger image or pattern.
- Charcoal: students will learn how to use charcoal to create textural effects and produce interplay between light and shadow using reductive and additive techniques.
- Oil painting - inspired by the greats: students will learn how to master the different oil techniques used by the most famous painters of all time. This class mixes art history teaches with oil painting practice.
