Water meter replacements

Over the next two years, the City of Airdrie will be replacing outdated residential water meters throughout the city. If your water meter has been in service for 15 years or longer, it may be nearing the end of its life cycle.

Water meters measure and record the amount of water used within your home and can be helpful in detecting water leaks. Replacing water meters that have reached the end of their useful life helps ensure your meter is running efficiently.

The City has contracted Metercor to implement our water meter replacement program. If your water meter is due to be replaced, you will receive a letter in the mail as well as a follow-up email notifying you and requesting that you schedule a service appointment to have your meter replaced.

Having a working and updated water meter is mandatory for all residences. They are provided by the City, and the replacement will be done at no cost to you.

This project will be done in phases. In 2025, Metercor will contact residences requiring replacements in the NW communities of Canals, Canoe, Bayside, Baysprings, Baywater, Davy Creek, Fairways, Williamstown, Willowbrook, Woodside, Reunion, Sagewood, Bayview, Channelside, and Sawgrass. If you are contacted by Metercor, we ask you to book your appointment and review the information below.

Preparing for your appointment

To enable this work to be performed with minimal inconvenience to you, please be sure that the control valves on either side of the water meter are in working order and the area around the meter is accessible to our staff.

Water meters are installed just above the main water shut-off valve in your home. This is usually in the basement and is located on a pipe that comes out of your basement floor. Most water meters have a transmitter that is remotely read for billing purposes.

As per the City of Airdrie Waterworks Bylaw (Bylaw B-04/2025 Consolidation) the control valves before and after the meter are the responsibility of the property owner. If at the time of the appointment an adult is not present, the meter is inaccessible, or the valves before and after the meter are inoperable or leak, a minimum service charge of $65 will be applied to your account.
